Reid head of the subsidiary Island/Def Jam label group and Reid signed her to an agreement with a record label. At the end of August, 2009 she launched her self-titled debut album under the moniker Jessie James. Jessie James had a moderately popular debut record. Wanted, a song of the album, reached the Top 40 singles chart. Decker was always viewed as a singer from the country genre, but the album's marketing and production was geared towards a more pop-oriented audience. Following two singles from the album stiffed Decker was battling with labels executives to gain more control of her music. her next single Boys in the Summer was a more country-oriented release. Decker's sophomore album, released with the name Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records was pulled because Mercury saw the poor performance of three of Decker's singles on the charts of country radio.
